I got a request asking how summer school went for me.  I have not forgotten to tell everyone.  OK, well, maybe I did for a second, but now I remember and I will let everyone know.  It was oh-so-exciting.  Almost literally!  I swear, things happen to me that don’t happen to just anyone.  I don’t know what I was doing when they were handing out luck, but I definitely didn’t get my share.  I must have been looking at something shiny since shiny things easily distract me.

But, back to the point of this post.  I will tell you about summ-

Well, hello there!  Remember me?  No?  Well, just to refresh your memory, I’m the non-traditional student that started this blog oh-so-long-ago and then abandoned it because I got busy.  Imagine that!  A busy non-trad student!  I can tell you’re shocked.  I’ll give you a moment….

OK, now that you’ve recovered from the total shock that I, as a full-time student who works full-time and also tries to have some semblance of a social life, could ever possibly be busy, I actually have some stuff to say!

School’s started again and I’m happy to announce that after this semester I am only two semesters away from graduation!  Yay!!!!!  Providing I can pass all those darn accounting classes, anyway.  I only have 34 more credit hours to take and still graduate with the 150 credits needed to take the CPA exam in Indiana.

This is after my unfortunate incident last fall involving the kid guy with the gun and the consequent failing of a very important class AND the other unfortunate incident involving the case of H1N1 flu I managed to pick up this spring causing me to barely pass the same class when taken for the second time.  I have never been called so many pig-related names or been snorted at so many times in my life as when I was diagnosed with the swine flu.  It got old.  Real.  Quick.  I swear, we non-trads don’t have it easy! (I never even mentioned the time I got MRSA when school was in session, and I was reminded of another illness I had the other day by a friend that I can’t, for the life of me, remember right now.  I must have blocked it out.  Oh wait!  Now I remember!  Not an illness but a football related injury.  That’s right, I broke my finger playing football.  Inside.  While standing maybe 5 feet away from the person throwing me the ball.  I’m just that awesome.)

Now, however, I am flu-free and ready to take on the world!  I’m actually very motivated this semester — spending more time in the law library (aka lawbrary) on campus than my friend in law school — reading, writing papers, studying and staying on a near constant sugar high thanks to those yummy bottles of Sprite!  I choose this awesome library over the main one because it is quiet.  Oh so blissfully quiet.  I swear it’s so quiet that every time I click my mouse I can feel the dirty looks from my fellow students boring into the back of my head.    And don’t even talk to me about what happens when I forget to take my phone off vibrate.  Those looks have lasers coming out of the eye.  Red ones.  The kind that burn.

OK, all.  Now I must get back to reading.  I have a Criminal Law class this semester for my criminal justice minor that I find very interesting.  Almost interesting enough to make me want to pursue a law degree.  Almost.  If I do it, it’ll be when I go back for my Master’s so I can get the MBA/JD degree.

I must be a glutton for punishment.  Or a masochist.

it’s been a while….

I can’t believe it’s been over six months since I posted in my blog!  I suck.  So bad.  I’m sorry to any readers out there who were wondering what the heck happened to me.

Not a whole lot has happened in the past six months, really.  I did my internship at the accounting firm downtown (which was amazing), found out I wouldn’t be working full-time at my full-time job (which sucked), and became single again for the first time in a long time (which also sucked).

The internship was by far one of the greatest things I have done.  Ever.  It helped me to realize that even though I kind of pretty much hate learning about accounting in class, I really do like doing the work.  I’m hoping it will make me a better student who might want to actually, oh, I don’t know, study.  I know, right?  Studying?  While in college?  What an unheard of concept!  It’s just that school always came natural to me and I never had to work hard to get decent grades, so when I don’t understand a certain subject (such as the one I decided to major in) it’s really hard for me to hunker down and actually study.  I need to, though.  This is what I want to do, if not for the rest of my life, at least until I figure out what I do want to do when the rest of my life happens.

The worst part of my internship was finding out towards the end that my full-time job wouldn’t be able to give me full-time hours due to the suckiness of the economy.  That and they decided to give all the hours to the students who all went away for school and aren’t studying pharmacy and will therefore never work in a pharmacy again when they graduate.  Instead of giving them to me, who has been with the company for over seven years and at that particular pharmacy for two and does plan to work there some after I graduate.  And who doesn’t live with mommy and daddy (OK, well, I kinda do, but really, she lives with me so it doesn’t count.  Right?).  And has had to make her own way in this world since she was 19 years old.  So, now I’m torn between trying to find another job and trying to find a cosignor for a HUGE student loan so I can afford to live until I graduate next year.  Both daunting and seemingly impossible tasks these days.

And the single thing?  It happened.  It sucked.  I’m over it (not really, but I definitely don’t want to talk about it anymore).  I’m trying to move on.  Sometimes life just doesn’t turn out the way you planned.

I’m in summer classes right now.  Intermediate Accounting I and Intro to Forensic Science.  The science one is actually very interesting and I’m really enjoying it.  The accounting not so much.  I take it because I have to.  It will totally be worth it some day.

Speaking of class…..I’m off to listen to the accounting one online some more.  Saving grace is that at least I don’t have to sit in the class room.  I can totally sit at home and watch it online!  Yay!

I feel the need to continue writing this blog even though it’s summer and I’m not taking any classes.  My technical reason for not furthering my education this summer is that during the first session of summer classes at IUPUI I was going to be in Florida and would have had to miss a whole week of classes.  Which pretty much equals two or three weeks in ‘real time’ since the classes meet for three hours a day, two days a week.  While I wasn’t sure about my trip to Vienna when it came time to register for classes, it was an idea already and I was hoping to go, which would mean missing another week of classes during the second summer session.  See?  It was practical.  And money saving.  Maybe.

The real reason for not taking classes?  I NEED A BREAK!  I’m so burned out with school right now.  I need to be excited about it again, and I think that taking a few months off where I don’t have to think about it, AT ALL, will help me get back to being excited.  When I’m excited about school, I get very good grades.  My first semester back to school after a 7 year break?  A 3.9 GPA.  All the semesters since?  Not even a 3.5.  Need to do something about that.  And a break, even a short one, is the ticket.

So, since I’m not taking classes this summer, expect to see some non-school-related posts from me.  I might have the occasional financial aid induced rant, or a comment on the classes that I’m taking in the fall.  Or, most likely, a little bitching as the summer comes to an end, but other than that, this blog will mostly consist of all the fun things I plan to do this summer.

Like my upcoming trip to Vienna, for instance.  That’s right.  Vienna.  In Austria.  That’s in Europe.  I finally have a chance to use the passport I got last year!  Even though they probably won’t stamp it, it’s still cool that I get to use it.  I’ve been out of the country before, but never to Europe and I’m very excited about it!  I think I’m going to need a crash course in German.  Luckily my dad’s girlfriend is from Germany and can help me out with that.  I’m going to need to learn important phrases like, ‘Where’s the bathroom?’, ‘Check, please.’, and “May I have another beer?’.  Since I’ll be in Austria and rumor has it there is beer there.  Good beer.

So it’s T minus one month and 5 days till my trip.  I wish it was now!
