just call me miss piggy

September 14, 2009 · 1 Comment

Well, hello there!  Remember me?  No?  Well, just to refresh your memory, I’m the non-traditional student that started this blog oh-so-long-ago and then abandoned it because I got busy.  Imagine that!  A busy non-trad student!  I can tell you’re shocked.  I’ll give you a moment….

OK, now that you’ve recovered from the total shock that I, as a full-time student who works full-time and also tries to have some semblance of a social life, could ever possibly be busy, I actually have some stuff to say!

School’s started again and I’m happy to announce that after this semester I am only two semesters away from graduation!  Yay!!!!!  Providing I can pass all those darn accounting classes, anyway.  I only have 34 more credit hours to take and still graduate with the 150 credits needed to take the CPA exam in Indiana.

This is after my unfortunate incident last fall involving the kid guy with the gun and the consequent failing of a very important class AND the other unfortunate incident involving the case of H1N1 flu I managed to pick up this spring causing me to barely pass the same class when taken for the second time.  I have never been called so many pig-related names or been snorted at so many times in my life as when I was diagnosed with the swine flu.  It got old.  Real.  Quick.  I swear, we non-trads don’t have it easy! (I never even mentioned the time I got MRSA when school was in session, and I was reminded of another illness I had the other day by a friend that I can’t, for the life of me, remember right now.  I must have blocked it out.  Oh wait!  Now I remember!  Not an illness but a football related injury.  That’s right, I broke my finger playing football.  Inside.  While standing maybe 5 feet away from the person throwing me the ball.  I’m just that awesome.)

Now, however, I am flu-free and ready to take on the world!  I’m actually very motivated this semester — spending more time in the law library (aka lawbrary) on campus than my friend in law school — reading, writing papers, studying and staying on a near constant sugar high thanks to those yummy bottles of Sprite!  I choose this awesome library over the main one because it is quiet.  Oh so blissfully quiet.  I swear it’s so quiet that every time I click my mouse I can feel the dirty looks from my fellow students boring into the back of my head.    And don’t even talk to me about what happens when I forget to take my phone off vibrate.  Those looks have lasers coming out of the eye.  Red ones.  The kind that burn.

OK, all.  Now I must get back to reading.  I have a Criminal Law class this semester for my criminal justice minor that I find very interesting.  Almost interesting enough to make me want to pursue a law degree.  Almost.  If I do it, it’ll be when I go back for my Master’s so I can get the MBA/JD degree.

I must be a glutton for punishment.  Or a masochist.

is that your final answer?

December 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have my second to last final today.  I can’t wait for this semester to be over, since it has been my toughest since returning to school .  I’m exhausted from sleeping too little in order to study for these finals.  I had three of them on Tuesday!

I’m sitting on campus (freezing to death!) reading many chapters in my Classical Mythology book to get ready for my test in two and a half hours.  I decided not long ago that after this test I’m going straight to the ‘Cash for Books’ table in the breezeway by the library and selling this book.  It’s not that I don’t like the book; it’s actually very well written and relatively entertaining (every story somehow relates back to sex and it even mentions Freud – I think the author may be a sex fiend), I just really need some cash right now.  Stupid holidays and not being able to pay my bills on time when I got robbed.

Speaking of that robbery, I get to meet with the prosecutor again next Wednesday to go over the case again and listen to my 911 call.  I really don’t want to do that.  I can relive that night well enough just by thinking about it.  I don’t need recorded evidence to bring any of it back.  Plus, really, I get emotional enough when I hear random 911 calls on all the cop shows and forensic investigator shows I watch.  What will I do when it’s my own voice I hear on the other end of the line?  Probably freak right out.  Maybe I can get some Valium or Xanax from the doctor.  She’ll understand, right?  Right??

Oh well, enough procrastinating.  I have lots more chapters to read and many slides to go over in the next couple hours.  One more final after this.  Finance on Monday night, which I’m not worried about at all since we get to use two pages of notes and I’m really good at shrinking slides and writing out entire problems so tiny that I can hardly read them.

Wish me luck!

all i want for christmas is you

November 27, 2008 · 2 Comments

Now that it’s actually Thanksgiving I feel like I can share my Christmas spirit with everyone.  Here’s another meme I received in my email that I’m going to share with everyone.  Enjoy!

Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Wrapping paper of course!

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Artificial.  Easier to clean up and take care of and cheaper and PRE-LIT!

3. When do you put up the tree?
Some time after Thanksgiving.  Usually around my grandfather’s birthday, which is December 9th.
4. When do you take the tree down?
When I’m tired of looking at it.

5. Do you like eggnog?
I haven’t tried it.  Doesn’t sound appealing to me.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I don’t remember.  How bad is that?!  Probably something from my uncle because he always had the coolest gifts.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
My dad

8. Easiest person to buy for?
My mom
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
I don’t (that implies religion, and I don’t have that either)

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. They’re much more personal that way
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
A Barbie doll when I was 12 or 13 and way too old to be playing with them :-/

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?

The Santa Clause

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
It depends when I find something for someone.  For Christmas this year I started shopping the day after Christmas last year.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
I don’t think so
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Ham and mashed potatoes.  And the little green marshmallow wreaths my grandma makes!  And the chocolate covered pretzels I make :-)
16. Lights on the tree?
Of course!  I even put more lights on my pre-lit tree!
17. Favorite Christmas song?
Silent Night or Sleigh Ride
18. Travel at Christmas or stay at home?
Stay in Indiana, but travel all over the state.
19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixon, Comet and Cupid and Donder and Blitzen, but do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?  (And no I didn’t look it up!)
20. Angel on the tree top or star?
Star (everything in my life is to do with stars!)
21. Open presents Christmas Eve or in the morning?
One on Christmas Eve (the pjs you wear to bed that night!) and the rest Christmas morning :-)
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Traffic!
23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
Clear lights with silver sparkly ornaments.  It reminds me of snow, which is fine on my tree, but not fine on the ground.  Even at Christmas.  I guess I’m a grinch in that way!
24. Favorite Christmas dinner?
Ham
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
A new iTouch to replace the one that got stolen.  And to give back to those less fortunate than I am.
26. Who is most likely to respond to this?
Whoever steals it and puts it on their blog! (All are welcome to!)
If you want you can copy this and post your answers in a comment.  I’d love to hear them!

maybe tonight i’ve got a question for you

November 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

Stolen from @devylgyrl (via @darker_artic)

1. When showering, do you start the water and then get in, or get in then start the water?
I grew up in a house where the water took forever to warm up, so I always start the water and then get in.

2. Do you read the labels on your shampoo bottle?
Obsessively.  Usually multiple times.  Even when I’ve used the same kind for a while.

3. Do you moan in the shower like the people on the Herbal Essences commercial?
Not usually :-/

4. Have you ever showered with someone of the opposite sex?
Hasn’t everyone at some point?

5. Have you ever been forced to shower with one of your siblings?
I don’t remember being forced, but I do remember it happening as kids.  Hell we even bathed with the babysitter’s kids.

6. Have you ever brushed your teeth in the shower?
I have, but not for a loooong time.

7. Have you ever dropped your soap on your foot?
I have.  And the big bottles of shampoo.  Does not feel good.

8. How old do you look?
Younger than I am :-)   I usually get guessed around 22 or 23

9. How old do you act?
Depends on my mood.

10. What’s the last song you sang?
Bad Things by Jace Everett

11. Have you recently become a member of anything?
A new Facebook group?  I don’t know, I don’t think so.

12. What are your plans for the weekend?
Homework, homework, homework and more homework.  Thought about making a trip home to La Porte, but I’m not going to be able to due to all the homework.

13. Do you kiss with your eyes open or closed?
Closed is the only way to kiss.

14. What’s the sexiest thing about Condoleeza Rice?
The fact that she’s traveled?  I don’t see much sexy about her :-/

15. Does anything on your body itch right now?
Yes, the back of my leg.

16. Who’s the sexiest famous woman alive?
Halle Berry

17. Who’s the sexiest famous man alive?
Jude Law (but Colin Firth is in a close second!)

18. Does every family have a crazy uncle?
Probably.  Mine isn’t so crazy now that we’ve all gotten older, but when I was little I loved the fact that my uncle was an actor and acted like a crazy person (I didn’t really know what acting was, I guess.  I just thought he was up there doing silly stuff).

19. Have you ever smuggled something through customs?
I don’t think so.  I brought chocolate home from Europe, but you’re allowed to do that, right?

20. Does playing the guitar make a guy more attractive?
Absolutely

21. Do you live in a city with a good sports team?
Hell yes I do!  Go Colts!

22. Have you ever finished off the popcorn and ate the junk from the bottom of the bag?
Probably. I love popcorn!

23. Have you ever had sex in a tent?
Nope.

24. What about in a boat?
Not there, either.  Been closer there than in a tent, though.

25. Have you ever dated a Goth?
I wanted to in high school, but didn’t.

26. Would you rather receive amazing oral sex or have amazing sex?
Amazing sex.

27. Can you fix your own car?
I have before, with minimal help.  I replaced my thermostat and my own rotors/break pads in my first car.  And I can change my own oil and replace a flat tire.  I’m awesome :p
